The Shopping Cart Metaphor
The release of TopSail™ marks the first real shopping cart experience for hotel booking engines—an experience that is not only familiar to your guests, but also easy and fun to use.
With the shopping cart metaphor, guests can:
- Book multiple dates of stay, multiple rooms and even several properties in one transaction.
- Use the comparison view to compare properties within the same multi-property group.
- View add-ons on the main screen and in the cart view.
Call to Continue™ & Save for Later
Call to Continue™
If a mobile guest has added items to their cart, but would prefer not to enter their information online to complete the booking, he has the option to call to continue by simply touching a number on the device. This feature sends the reservation information to the hotel’s call center with a unique Cart ID that allows the reservation agent to pick up where the guest left off and complete the booking.
Save for Later
If guests are not ready to book, they can save their cart by simply entering an e-mail address. A link to their cart will then be sent to them to complete the booking process at a later time. Hotels can also use this feature to target these guests in future e-mail campaigns to re-engage their attention and increase bookings.
Responsive Design and the Cross-Device Conversion
The design and development teams took a fresh approach to the new booking engine to capture conversion and prevent abandonment. Since TopSail™ was designed responsively, it will automatically adjust to any device or screen size, meaning there is no longer a need to maintain a separate “mobile” booking engine. Your guests will get the same, seamless experience no matter where or how they book.
With the creation of Call to Continue™ and Save for Later, guests can now book across multiple devices with ease. A guest may begin researching hotels on his desktop computer at work, begin booking on his tablet at home and finish the reservation via his mobile phone.
